- MEMORIESLAB CELEBRATES
THE OPENING OF “BLACKOUT” MARKING
THE LAUNCH OF M GALLERY
We are proud to officially launch our online gallery with a themed exhibition: “BlackOut”, featuring an exclusively commissioned project shot by renowned photographer Ellen von Unwerth.
On Friday 30th October 2015, we celebrated the opening of “BlackOut” with 100 VVIP guests including international model Kasia Struss, fashion photographer Chen Man, Leaf magazine founder Leaf Greener, actress Kathy Yuen and actor Carlos Chan. They were invited to experience the première of BlackOut in the presence of Ellen von Unwerth and Carla Sozzani, founder of 10 Corso Como.
BlackOut – representative of a temporary loss of memory – has been approached by Ellen von Unwerth in different photographic framings: snapshots, portraits, landscapes, complemented by a small number of stills, all of which tell an erotic and post-apocalyptic story throughout its 6 chapters: Chaos - Runaway - Crash - Lost - Hope - Resurrection.
As a pioneer of pictorial language that sublimates feminity, Ellen von Unwerth redefines her boundaries once again by adding a layer of trauma to both memories and the impact of the loss of memories, hauntingly personified by the story’s heroines: models Kasia Struss and Maaike Klaasen. The underlying message of BlackOut’s epic adventure, with the entirety of its depiction in black-and-white, is that a woman without memories is a woman without a future.
The very arrival at the exhibition is an experience in and of itself: the visitor is immediately embraced in Ellen’s evocatively pictorial language exposed onto large format silver gelatin prints created by Memorieslab and framed under museum glass. The 30 artworks interpreting the BlackOut story are available for purchase exclusively through our gallery, 6 of them are personally signed by the artist, while the other 24 are available in limited editions.
Exhibited in Asia for the first time, IMAGO Photour Camera is an interactive objet d’art – the only camera in the world enabling the creation of life-sized full body portraits. The photographic experience will enable visitors to leave the BlackOut exhibition with a unique life-sized self portrait directly exposed onto exclusive photographic paper. It introduces an interactive layer to the blackout experience. Merging photographic aesthetics with state-of- the-art design, the IMAGO Camera is the modern way to meet oneself in fascinating black and white contrasts. As an exclusive partner of IMAGO Camera, Memorieslab invites visitors to make a reservation on the dedicated booking page.
BlackOut is a truly transient experience, beginning its journey at 10 Corso Como Shanghai where it will feature until January 3rd 2016, before moving to Hong Kong and Europe. The BlackOut exhibition, exclusively sponsored by Memorieslab, is spreading a wave of black-and-white immersions throughout the most vibrant cities of the world.
